Revisiting Your Estate Plan

I often see people have nice, solid estate plans prepared for themselves, which then sit on a shelf untouched for twenty years. That’s a big mistake. Often, what you needed twenty years ago isn’t the same as what you need now.

As time goes by, things change. Your needs and priorities change. The law changes. What may have been a good plan for you ten or twenty years ago might not work so well now and might even be worse than not having a plan at all! I suggest you review your estate plan at least every three years, or any time there is a major change in your life such as marriage, divorce, or having a new child.
